Foucsing on two auspicious thoughts per day

Translation by Yehoshua Siskin

Which of our thoughts deserve the strictest attention? Dr. Yechiel Harari writes as follows: "Our two most important daily thoughts are the first thought and the last thought of the day. The first thought is the foundation for that day's conduct and the last thought is a summary of that same day. It is within the power of this last thought to paint the passing day with new colors. This last thought frames events and gives them commentary, context, and validity, allowing us to improve upon what transpired. Therefore it is critical to fight for these thoughts, to insist that they be exalted, positive, joyful, loving, full of spirit. But not all of our thoughts need to make us happy. It is permissible and even desirable that they sometimes break our heart, as long as our heart is not being pulled by fantasies, deceptions, and unseemly desires, but reveals the truth within us. We need to pay attention to these two thoughts, and to take advantage of the daily opportunities they present for us and for our children."
