65 years ago, today, the Chazon Ish (Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz) passed away. We can write a lot about his Torah teachings and about his influence over the Jewish world, but a tiny story about him caught my attention. It is a story about the way in which we should treat others, and it is also related to this week's Portion, which presents to us Avraham Avinu, the great teacher of Chessed (acts of kindness):
Once, the Chazon Ish left his home to travel to a Bris. Outside, as usual, a few people were waiting for him, and each of them asked their question and presented their request. The Rabbi answered all of them with patience, and when he got into the car, he asked the driver, who was in a hurry to get to the Bris: "For the first fifty meters please drive slowly. I don't want the people to feel that I wanted to run away from their troubles...".
