Elections are Not Everything

I am writing to you from the News Desk here at Channel 12. Here, there is no clear answer as to who won and who lost these elections. The political situation is complex and stuck. During the night, someone texted me the following:

"Why won't you write about 18th of Elul? After the 17th of Elul, Election Day, comes 18th of Elul, the birthday of the Ba'al Shem Tov, founder of the Hassidism movement, as well as the birthday of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of the Chabad Hassidut. We remember and commemorate this date till this very day. Both of them never ran for elections nor were they voted for in the ballot boxes, but they caused a revolution throughout the whole Jewish world.

For over 200 years ,the Hasidic Movement has added light, warmth and meaning to the lives of millions of people, till this very day. The political system is important, but not exclusively so. This is also a message for most of us, who are not politicians: Even though for a whole year we've been occupying ourselves mainly with what THEY do, what WE do is very important too. Not only does the 17th of Elul impact us, the 18th of Elul does too.”
