The video below shows a line of mourners who gathered at the start of the Shiva (seven-day period of mourning) for Yossi Hershkovitz, may HaShem avenge his blood. Yossi, 44, was the esteemed principal of the ORT Pelech High School for boys in Jerusalem.
A father of one of the students at the school told me the following about Yossi:
“When my son first arrived at the school on the opening day of the year, principal Yossi took him aside and said: ‘You are going to save our school!’ It turned out that the principal had heard that my son was good at basketball. The principal insisted that he join the school team in order to improve their standing among the teams in their league.
My son came home in a state of euphoria. The principal had only just met him and had already told him he would save the school. Wow!”
Yossi’s sister asked that each one of us try to be little more like Yossi: To make others feel dignified and important, to empower them, to see the good in them, and to awaken within them new found strength.
Shabbat shalom.
