Sukkot: To gather everything together

* Translation by Yehoshua Siskin ([email protected])

The Lubavitcher Rebbe once said: "Sukkot is the Festival of Ingathering. You gather all your 'produce,' all your deeds, your successes and failures, all the wonderful and holy things we did in the passing year, all the thoughts, words, and actions of the year just ended. To gather everything together, to meditate upon it, to be grateful -- and to rejoice."

It’s past midnight at the kotel. The kotel is filled with visitors, this time not for Selichot, but for Chol Hamoed Sukkot. I felt like I was the only Israeli there. All I heard around me was English. This is an amazing occurrence that people don’t know enough about and isn’t covered on the news. Holy tourism. We welcome our tens of thousands of brothers and sisters that have come to do an “Aliya Laregel” to Jerusalem. Chag sameach.
